What Are Chakras? How Are Chakras Involved in Different Beliefs?

Chakra (a word of Sanskrit origin, called Pali: chakka, Chinese: 轮, Tibetan: khorlo) means “wheel” or “cycle”. According to Hindu traditions and some belief systems, they are given this name because it is believed that the energy centers in human beings consist of energy fields rotating in the form of vortexes.

Chakra is considered in Indian Philosophy and some related Asian cultures to be the connecting point for the metaphysical or biophysical energy found in the human body. Masters of Yoga; They claim that human beings have a more sensitive and active body beyond their physical existence. According to the belief, we can only sense this through our emotions in some special cases.

Although there are those who believe that there are chakras at many different points in our body (in different beliefs, the most important ones are on the palms, soles, kneecaps, elbows) there are 7 main chakra centers in our body along the spine, on the basis of hindu traditions.

According to Indian philosophy, there is a “positive current” at the top of the head (ie where the crown chakra is located), while there is a “negative current” in the coccyx (ie where the root chakra is located) at the lower node of the spine. The electrical power circulating between these two poles is Life.

The goal of every yogi is to awaken the sleeping Kundalini, or negative energy, which is coiled three times on itself like a snake, in the coccyx, near the Muladhara Chakra, and connect it with the positive current located in the Sahasrara Chakra (top of the head) Sushumna Nadi (along the spinal cord).

This can be achieved through Pranayama (breathing exercises), asanas (yoga postures), and meditation practiced with patience and perseverance. There are not many yogis who can achieve this. As the Kundalini moves upwards, the energy centers (chakras) lined up along the spine pierce one by one and combine with the positive current at the top of the skull, the yogi’s body is shaken as if it were electrocuted, and he feels the highest pleasure of happiness; Thus, he is considered to have ascended to holiness: according to yogis, those who attain it can read the mind of the other person, and it is believed that the ability to see the future is achieved.

However, Kundalini awakened under bad conditions can be dangerous, upsetting the practitioner’s entire spiritual balance.

It is written in historical information that there are 7 main energy centers. Today, however, more modern systems such as Pranic Healing claim to have 11 major chakras and many minor and mini chakras. Yet historical approaches remain popular.

These energy centers, called chakras in modern Sanskrit, are powerful electric fields, invisible to the naked eye. Each of these seven power stations corresponds to the glands that secrete hormones in our body. They stimulate the hormone production of these glands. In other words, the endocrine glands that secrete hormones in our physical body correspond to the chakras in our energy body.
